Sealcoating
Primarily used on drives, driveways, and parking areas, this coating protects asphalt from the damaging effects of petroleum products. Not only does seal coating protect and extend the life of asphalt, its deep black smooth appearance is visually appealing as well.
Asphalt:
- Gas and oil can penetrate, dissolving the binder that holds asphalt together. - The sun can dry out pavements. The asphalt becomes brittle causing the larger aggregate to ravel away. - Water left sitting on the pavement can penetrate into the sub-base causing premature pavement failure. - Once the pavement has been weakened, water can wash away the aggregates that are it’s strength.
Coal tar sealant:
- Keeps damaging fluids away from the asphalt allowing the rain to wash the pavement clean. - Forms a tough bond that does not allow the sun's UV rays to penetrate. - Waterproofs the pavement - The jet black color raises the temperature of the pavement making water evaporate more quickly and ice melt quicker in the winter.
